Each encaustic painting is purposefully subtle in these messages for the viewer to ponder.
A pyrography technique using wood burning tools, such as letters or symbols are burned into the wax. An Accretion method is used to build up multiple layers of wax, which are lightly torched by fire to bond these layers together.
Accretion provides the texture in the encaustic painting. A razor blade or pottery tool is sometimes used to scrape back layers of wax, revealing a smooth surface of a message.
